Introduction

In most European cities a terrace is a nice extra, used for a few weeks in summer. In Barcelona it is a room. With more than three hundred days of sun a year and winters that rarely bite, outdoor space here carries real square metres of daily life, which is why buyers who understand the city look at the terrace before the kitchen.

‍

How many months is a Barcelona terrace actually usable?

Most of the year. Spring and autumn are the best seasons outdoors, not summer, which can be humid at midday. Winter afternoons in the sun are warm enough to eat outside. The practical constraint is not cold, it is wind and shade, which is why orientation matters more here than insulation.

‍

What makes a good one?

Depth before width. A narrow balcony takes a chair and nothing else. A terrace that can hold a table with people walking behind it becomes a dining room for half the year. After that: some shade you can control, a water point for plants, enough privacy that you are not performing for the building opposite, and a threshold flush with the interior floor so the two spaces read as one.

‍

How does the Eixample grid affect it?

Cerdà's chamfered corners and wide streets mean light reaches further down the façade than in a conventional grid, and the forty-five degree cut at each junction opens long diagonal views. Terraces facing into the block interior get the quiet; those on the street get the light and the view of the façades opposite. Both are worth having, for different reasons.

FAQ

‍

Do apartments at Còrsega Residences have terraces?

Several do, and the three penthouses are topped by private pools. The duplex penthouse has its own rooftop.

‍

Which orientation is best in Barcelona?

South and southwest give the longest sun. East-facing terraces are better for morning use and stay cooler in high summer.

‍

Can you use a terrace in winter here?

On sunny days, yes. Barcelona winters are mild and the city keeps eating outdoors well into December.
